North Jersey Partners:                                   Wired Talent Driving Prosperity

Uniting Organizations for Economic Growth

The Morris Sussex Warren Workforce Investment Board (MSW WIB) is part of North Jersey Partners, an innovative regional partnership of public, private, and government organizations collaborating to ensure that a talented and skilled workforce will help drive economic growth in northern New Jersey.

Funding
North Jersey Partners
operates with an initial investment of $5.1 million provided by the U.S. Department of Labor through the Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development (WIRED) Initiative.  The New Jersey Institute of Technology has a large role in the grant, particularly through the business acceleration and incubator assistance program.  The lead agency in implementing the grant is the Newark Alliance.

Service Area
The service area is comprised of Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic, Sussex, Union, and Warren counties in northern New Jersey.  Bordering the Delaware River, New York City, and the Atlantic Ocean, this region includes more than 4 million people and over half of New Jersey's private sector jobs. It is a national economic powerhouse, and home to many global corporate leaders.  It is an attractive, diverse region that also hosts some of the richest and poorest communities in our nation.

Mission
North Jersey Partners’ mission is to align and connect regional institutions and organizations to ensure that people and industries become — and remain — competitive, inventive, and innovative.  Our primary goals are to:

    -  leverage assets that help sustain and grow our regional economy

    -  link unemployed and underemployed residents - and prepare students - to fill jobs in
industry sectors with existing shortages and anticipated growth

    -  spur development and job creation through innovation and small business expansion

Key Industry Clusters
North Jersey Partners
focuses on key industry clusters that may be expected to provide the greatest economic impact through development of a talented workforce.  We also emphasize actions that cut across the target clusters.

Transportation, Logistics, & Distribution
The region is the entry-point and staging area for 65% of the population of North America to receive goods and services within one day.  It is home to the largest port on North America's East Coast.  The industry is undergoing dramatic change, and we support the training of workers in industry-identified professions.

Health Care & Life Sciences
There is a current labor shortage in allied health care professions and North Jersey Partners is leading efforts to recruit, train, and retain workers to fill these gaps.  We are using our entrepreneurial and technology initiatives to support a variety of pathways in life sciences, from discovery to development to delivery.

Entertainment, Arts & Retail
The region’s expanding mix of creative and artistic venues — along with incomparable entertainment, sports, hospitality and retailing destinations — provide untapped prospects for job creation.   North Jersey Partners is fostering a convergence of talent and opportunity in this cluster.

Entrepreneurship & Small Business Development
North Jersey Partners is working with entrepreneurs and small businesses to enhance their chances for success, and to accelerate the transformation of new ideas into commercial products and services.

Information Technology
Information technology is at the heart of dynamic economic growth, and North Jersey Partners is working to ensure that every worker has access to these critical skills. Taking a further step, we are using IT, and specifically online technology, to support and expand the way in which 21st century training and education are conducted.
